The Wrecking Crew

Songkran takes on aspects of Carnival in western countries; it can be an almost non-stop party that lasts for several days (a week in Pattaya). For farang with a sense of humor (and drip dry clothing), it provides an opportunity to interact with the locals like nothing else. A smile, a face covered with limestone (or whatever it is) goo, and a brightly colored clothing are all you need to go out and get some great candid photos. Just be prepared to pocket your camera with only a split second warning. By the way, the Thai New Year does not coincide with the Chinese New Year - no ploblem, since it gives Thais the opportunity to celebrate the arrival of THREE different new years. Sweet!

Songkran

Both water festival, and Buddhist new year celebration, Songkran kicks in on April 13th, and merriment doesn' t let out until a week after. this was shot inBang Saen, a beach about 100kms East of bangkok in the Chonburi province.
